Golden Rule Bears is owned and operated by native Northwesterners Tom and Lorraine Young. With help from 7 part-time employees (all met as customers and all teddy bear collectors), the store is open 6 days a week. Sumner shopping is a treat for anyone, with many quaint shops centrally located within walking distance of one another.

Thousands of bears are among the cuddly menagerie inhabiting the shelves at the store snuggled in the heart of downtown Sumner. Cats, dogs, bunnies and frogs cuddle alongside koalas, pandas and polar bears. Grizzlies grin at the occasional otter and the teddies range from toy to brand-name collectible to true works of soft-sculpture art. Teddy figurines from whimsical to nostalgic join other bear-themed items such as stationery, jewelry, home decor and kitchen accessories. You'll also find books and magazines on collecting or making your own teddies, as well as storybooks. Enormous selections of Muffy VanderBear, her family, friends and accessories and a Classic Winnie-the-Pooh© Corner are particular highlights for fans of these famous bears. Steiff from Germany and Merrythought from England are also heavily featured.

They love the great compliment and are pretty sure they do have the largest inventory in stock, anyway. “The best part of the business is definitely the nice people we meet.
